From Visuals to Data: Modern Inspection & Assessment for Parking Structures
Corrosion of reinforcing steel remains the primary cause of deterioration in parking structures. Effective durability planning requires moving beyond surface-level observations to quantitative evaluation of corrosion risk. Modern assessment integrates visual inspection with a suite of destructive and non-destructive testing methods to characterize the severity, extent, and mechanisms of reinforcement corrosion. While no individual technique can capture the full picture, combining complementary methods provides a robust framework for understanding concrete health.
This session will examine the range of available tools, from traditional field observations to advanced data-driven testing and demonstrate how their integration supports informed decision-making and long-term service life management of parking facilities.

Protecting Post-Tensioned Parking Structures: Evaluation, Repair & Corrosion Mitigation Strategies
Un-bonded post-tensioned (PT) concrete reinforcement systems are widely used in parking structures due to their structural efficiency, reduced slab thickness, and long-span capabilities. However, over time, these systems may deteriorate due to environmental exposure, construction deficiencies, or inadequate maintenance. This can lead to corrosion of post-tensioning tendons, cracking, and even structural distress. To mitigate these risks, the resolution process requires implementing a targeted maintenance program and early intervention to preserve the structural integrity and functionality of PT systems.
This session will review different approaches to inspection, evaluation, replacing and repairing un-bonded post-tensioned reinforcement in concrete parking structures. Emphasis is placed on condition assessment techniques including visual inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), and destructive sampling for tendon exposure and grouting integrity.

Tailored Protection: Designing Targeted Corrosion Mitigation Solutions for Parking Structures
Parking structures present unique durability challenges due to chloride exposure, moisture infiltration, and heavy service demands. While patch repairs address visible damage, they can also trigger the “Halo Effect” or “Patch Accelerated Corrosion,” accelerating deterioration in adjacent parent concrete. To achieve lasting results, corrosion protection strategies must have tailored designs to fit each structure’s specific condition, exposure, and service-life requirements.
This session will move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to highlight how engineers and owners can design targeted mitigation plans. Topics will include understanding corrosion cell initiation, evaluating the risks associated with patch repairs, and selecting appropriate solutions from the full range of available technologies. Both embedded and surface-applied systems will be discussed, along with how they can be combined into integrated strategies. Real-world parking structure projects will demonstrate how tailored corrosion mitigation designs translate into longer service life, improved durability, and optimized lifecycle costs, ultimately providing actionable guidance for those responsible for protecting these critical assets.

Global Corrosion Protection for Parking Structures: Long-Term Durability by Design
Across the globe, aging parking structures built in past decades are now facing corrosion-driven deterioration from exposure to chlorides, carbonation, and environmental stressors. Achieving true durability, means moving beyond surface-level repairs, to a holistic, global protection strategy that addresses corrosion at its source.
This session will demonstrate how to plan and implement comprehensive global repair and protection strategies for existing parking structures. We’ll explore proven approaches to corrosion mitigation and barrier protection for existing structures, supported by real-world case studies and field performance data
Participants will walk away with practical examples and case studies to understand how adopting a global repair philosophy will deliver sustainable, long-term performance.
